أُلغيت البطولة في 21 مارس 2020 بسبب جائحة كوفيد-19 . ^{[ 2 ]} تم اختيار فرق الاتحاد الدولي لهوكي الجليد التاريخية في الذكرى المئوية لبطولة العالم لهوكي الجليد ، من الدول التي كان من المقرر أن تشارك في بطولة العالم لهوكي الجليد 2020. ^{[ 3 ] [ 4 ]}
