في اليونان القديمة ، البيداغوغوس ( اليونانية القديمة : παιδαγωγός ) كان عبدًا مكلفًا بالإشراف على الأولاد من سن السابعة وفي الجمهورية الرومانية ، البيداغوغوس ، الجمع بيداغوجي أو بيداغوجياني ، [ 1 ] كان عبدًا أو معتقًا قام بتعليم أبناء المواطنين الرومان [ 2 ] اللغة اليونانية . [ 3 ] في فترة الإمبراطورية الرومانية , أصبح البيداغوجي مديرا للبيداغوجيا . [ 3 ]

البيداغوجيا البالاتينية​

لم تكن هناك مدارس عامة في أوائل الجمهورية الرومانية، لذا كان الآباء أو المعلمون المتعلمون، الذين كانوا في الغالب من أصل يوناني، هم من يعلمون الأولاد القراءة والكتابة. [ 4 ] [ 5 ] [ 6 ]

رُسمت صورة لمعلم على شكل نقش على جدران مبنى التعليم في بالاتين ، وهي تمثل تكوينه الاجتماعي والثقافي، والذي يُعرف بأنه عبد. [ 1 ]

نقشٌ يعود إلى القرن الثاني الميلادي، مُهدى إلى الإمبراطور الروماني كاراكلا، يُدرج أربعة وعشرين مُعلِّمًا. [ 2 ] وفي بعض الحالات، يرتبط لقب "مُعلِّم" بعائلات النخبة الخاصة . [ 7 ] [ 8 ] [ 9 ]

In the imperial institution, the title of paedagogus refers to the duty of child-attendant or tutor rather than a teacher.[10] The other title of paedagogus refers to a variety of interrelated capacities related to the offspring of the imperial family and aristocracy: disciplina (academic and moral instruction), custodia (companion and protector) and decorum (directives of precepts for public behaviour).[11] There is a third title which appears in three inscriptions and means the director of the paedagogium (praeceptor).[12]
